Highlights: Highest number of job increases found in the Health & Social sectors!
- Canada recorded overall job vacancies of 575,000 as on April 2024.
 - The healthcare and social assistance sectors have reported the highest number of job openings.
 - Management-related roles in Canada have increased by 1.8%.

Payroll employment continues to rise in Healthcare and Social assistance sectors
According to the Survey of Employment, Payrolls, and Hours, payroll employment in the first three months of 2024 has seen consecutive monthly gains of 92,500. Social assistance, healthcare sector, and management-related job roles had the highest number of job increases. The healthcare and social assistance sectors saw a rise in payroll employment in April by 0.2% (5,700). The growth has been constant since September 2022, with collective gains of 149,600 since. The surgical and general medical hospitals in the country led the monthly gains in April 2024 by 0.3% (+1,900). The family and individual services in the social assistance sector had monthly gains of 0.9% (+1,800).

Increase in weekly earnings on a year-on-year basis
The average weekly earnings rose by 3.7% in April on a year-over-year basis. The increase has been continuous, with a 4.1% increase in March 2024. Changes in wages, employment composition, the total number of hours worked, and the effects of the base year influence the average weekly earnings. The average working hours per week were 33.5 in April 2024, which is 0.9% on a year-over-year basis.
