Employers in Canada increased average hourly wages by 7.5 percent
Job vacancy report issued by Statistics Canada reveals that the country has around 1 million job vacancies. A job is considered as vacant due to the following conditions:
- Existence of a specific position
- Work can be started within 30 days
- Employers want to hire workers from outside organization
Average wages rose by 7.5 percent to meet the manpower shortage
Many employers increased average hourly pay by 7.5 percent in Q3 of 2022 in comparison to the same period of the previous year. The table below reveals the details of wage increase in some of the in-demand occupations.

Future plans of Canada to meet shortage of workers
Canada has to address the shortage of workers challenge so it has decided that in 2023, targeted Express Entry draws will be held for in-demand professions. The country is also planning the following measures to meet the workforce demand:
- Granting Open Work Permits to families of workers who hold LMIA-based work permits
- Uncapping the number of working hours for international students
These measures will be implemented till December 31, 2023.
