Highlights: An increase in Canada PR fees is applicable from April 30, 2024
- On April 30, 2024, IRCC announced that specific permanent residence (PR) fees would increase
- IRCC increased the fees with the increase in the Consumer Price Index for Canada
- The fee increase will be marked for applicants applying from April 2024 and March 2026
- The sponsored child and Principal applicants are exempt from paying the PR fee.

As per IRCC, the dependent children and protected persons, the following groups of applicants are exempt from paying the department PR fees:
- The sponsored child should be under 22 years old and not have a spouse/partner.
- Principal applicants under the humanitarian and compassionate consideration and public policy classes.
IRCC added that permanent residents can’t include family members in their PR applications. Instead, all eligible individuals must submit their applications for Canada PR as their principal applicant.
