The Latest Francophone Immigration Policies
The Immigration Minister of Canada announced new immigration strategies for promoting Francophone immigration outside Quebec.
Some of the measures taken by the Canadian Government are as follows:
- A new Francophone Immigration policy
- Renewal & expansion of the Welcoming Francophone Communities initiatives.
- A new program to support the immigration of French-speaking candidates
- Implementation of Action Plan for Official Languages.

Targets Initiatives of the Francophone Immigration
The IRCC had earlier announced new selection criteria in 2023. The new selection criteria were for candidates applying via –
- Express Entry program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The primary selection criteria factors were the candidates' work experience in the in-demand occupations list of Canada and French language proficiency equal to CLB 7 or more.
The Action Plan for Official Languages 2023-2028 is another initiative the Canadian Government took. The plan will invest $80 million or more over the next five years towards Francophone immigration.
Some of the undertakings of the funding are:
- Retention activities
- Strengthen the Francophone immigration pathways
- Recruit teachers with primary and secondary-level French proficiency
- Recruit French-speaking teachers
- Improve the Francophone immigration initiatives
