Reason to introduce the Income threshold for foreign nationals
The primary reason to introduce the income criteria is for foreign nationals to support themselves financially. This new rule will ensure they are paid enough to support themselves financially in the country. This new rule also supports the government's objective of increasing the number of full-time workers in Finland. The new rule is effective from January 1, 2025. According to a recent report by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Economics, the income limit of €1,600 has a minor impact on labor availability nationally.
The income threshold will mainly affect skilled workers, including workers in other sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and administration and support services.
