Germany Sets up a Digital Platform for National Visas
Germany has now switched to an e-platform to process German national visas. Applicants filing for German student visa, German work visas, and Family reunification visas can apply through the new digital platform. The decision to switch to an online mode was taken to streamline and simplify the processing of German visas. Nearly 167 immigration offices and consulates will work with the Consular Services Portal for efficient processing.
The German government is in talks to extend digital processing to international positions, facilitating candidates' submission of their applications online.

Germany takes new measures to address Workforce shortages
The Foreign Minister commended the digital portal as an up-and-coming idea to address the ongoing labor shortages in Germany. The Foreign Affairs Office (BAA) has reportedly been working on the new e-platform for more than two years and has also introduced a pilot project on three different visa applications. Germany is currently seeking 400,000 skilled workers across different occupations.
Indians are said to be some of the primary visa occupants, owing to Germany’s recent agreement with India. As per the agreement, the number of work visas for skilled Indians will be increased to 90,000 from the earlier 20,000 cap.

Germany takes measures to attract skilled foreign talent
The German government is taking new measures to streamline visa processing by improving the situation for skilled migrant workers. The Skilled Immigration Act is one such initiative that allows skilled foreign workers to come and work in Germany under limited restrictions or conditions.
The German Opportunity Card is another measure that facilitates migrant workers entering the country and seeking employment even with minimal German language knowledge, at least 2 years of professional experience, and a university degree.
