Highlights: German work visas to be doubled in number from June 01, 2024

Changes in the Western Balkans Regulation
Under the Western Balkans Regulations, six Western Balkan countries will have privileged access to the German labour market from June 1, 2024. Workers from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina will be able to access the German labour market.
Germany has announced to double the number of work visas for western Balkan workers. The Federal Labour Agency is to issue 50,000 work visas annually from June 2024. The German Embassy stated that all appointments till June 2024 are to be addressed via a lottery system.

Registrations open for Work Visa Appointment
Recent reports state that western Balkan workers have been showing high interest in acquiring German work visas. Workers from the six western Balkan countries can register for work visa appointments till May 14, 2024.
The German authorities are to use a monthly lottery system to select candidates randomly. Selected workers from the six countries would be eligible to schedule a work visa appointment.
