Highlights: Sean Fraser announced Category-based selection Draws
- The Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser, introduced category-based selection Draws for Express Entry candidates.
- Six categories have been chosen for the category-based draws for the year 2023.
- The new categories are set to be implemented this summer.
- The IRCC will prefer Express Entry candidates with French proficiency and work experience in particular fields. Skilled workers in targeted professions are set to be invited by the IRCC.

Category-based Express Entry Draws
- Express Entry candidates proficient in French and have work experience in the occupations listed below are highly preferred by the IRCC.
- Transport
- Agriculture & Agri-food
- Healthcare
- Trades like plumbers, contractors, carpenters, etc.
- STEM professions.
- IRCC plans to invite more skilled professionals for targeted occupations to promote the entry of in-demand professionals' entry into the country.
- The latest additions of categories are set to be implemented in the summer of 2023.

- Healthcare occupations
- Transport occupations
- Trade occupations
- French- language proficiency
- Agriculture and Agri-food occupations
- STEM occupations.
Eligibility Criteria for Express Entry Category-based Draws
Eligible Express Entry candidates who meet the requirements under specific categories are invited to apply for PR.
The eligibility criteria for the category-based Draws are as follows –
- Educational qualifications
- Ability to interact in official languages.
- Work experience in any of the NOC categories.
