Japan is looking to expand skilled foreign labor
Japan needs around 1 million foreign working professionals by 2040. According to research submitted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the country aims to maintain an average foreign workforce growth rate of 1.24%. Foreign workers are essential in promoting the country's economy and filling the labor shortage gaps.
Japan's total number of foreign workers has increased fourfold in the last 15 years. The ratio of the foreign workforce has reached around 3% of the total workforce, equal to 2.5 million. The Japanese government has also widened the work visa permit options to skilled jobs and other specific blue-collar sectors.
