Highlights: 100,000 Individuals received Naturalization in 2023
- The latest data shows nearly 100,000 individuals obtained German naturalization in 2023.
 - The overall citizenship rate registered last year was the highest annual record in history.

German Citizenship recorded an all-time high in 2023
The Welt am Sonntag surveyed around 25 cities in Germany and concluded that the number of people who became citizens last year was the highest in history. Around 100,000 individuals acquired German citizenship in 2023, up 81,007 compared to the previous year. Most of the naturalized citizens were from the following countries:
- Syria
 - Türkiye
 - Iraq
 - Romania
 - Afghanistan

New German Citizenship Rules
Germany’s new citizenship laws are said to be one factor contributing to the increasing number of citizenship applications. The German government announced dual citizenship for foreign nationals seeking citizenship. With dual citizenship, individuals can become citizens of Germany without giving up their preceding citizenship.
Germany also secured the 6th position for having one of the strongest passports worldwide, facilitating visa-free entries to 105 countries.
