Australia’s Permanent Migration Program for 2025–26 is set at 185,000 places, consistent with the previous year. Approximately 70 to 71 percent of these places are allocated to the skill stream, which includes employer-sponsored, independent skilled, and regional visas. The remainder is distributed across the family stream, special eligibility, and child visas. Maintaining the cap at this level reflects the government’s objective of balancing economic growth with population planning while ensuring skilled migrants continue to contribute to workforce needs and national productivity goals.
