DHA has announced a permanent extension of the Automatic renewal period for specific EAD applicants. Qualifying applicants will now get an automatic renewal period of up to 540 days to renew their employment authorization and employment documents.
The new rule is set to benefit employers in the US while promoting economic growth and making EADs more accessible. The final rule will most likely be implemented from January 13, 2025. The USCIS has announced several measures to cut down the EAD processing time and to streamline the process, which include:
- The median EAD processing time for renewal applications from FY 2021 will now be reduced by half.

- The EAD processing time for asylum workers will be reduced to under 30 median days.
- The EAD validity for specific categories has been extended to 5 years from the previous 2-year period.
