U.S. Green Card holders to get 36-month validity extension
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the extension of Green card validity effective September 10, 2024. Green card holders who register for Form I-90 can now receive a visa validity extension of 36 months. Individuals who file for a renewal of an already expired or expiring Green card can qualify for this extension. Earlier, those who filed for Form I-90 received an extension of Green card validity of 24 months, which has now changed.
Individuals who recently filed Form I-90 will now have a chance to extend the validity of their Green card for 36 months from the expiry date. The receipt notices given to those who have filed Form I-90 can be used as proof of employment authorization and continued residence status. These receipt notices are required to be submitted with the expired Green card.
Individuals who no longer have a Green card and are looking for proof of PR status while awaiting the replacement of a Green card can appeal for an appointment at the USCIS Field Office. After filing Form I-90, the field office will grant a Telecommunications (ADIT) stamp, Alien Identification, and Documentation.
