Non-Immigrant Visa Interview Waiver System

The Department of Homeland Security and the Secretary of State collectively decided to waive interviews for specific categories of visas. The decision was finalized in December 2023 and will be implemented starting January 2024.

 

Note: Interview waivers are not applicable for first-time visa applicants belonging to U.S. visa-waiver countries. 

 

Eligibility for Interview Waiver

The eligibility criteria to be fulfilled to qualify for the visa interview waiver are as follows:

  • The applicant must have previously been issued a non-immigrant visa and must apply within two days of the expiry of the previous visa.  
  • The applicant must apply from their country of nationality or origin.
  • The applicant must not have any ineligibility factors.
  • The applicant must not have a history of visa refusal.

Steps to Apply for a US Visa

You can follow the simple steps given below to apply for a U.S. visa:

Step 1: Choose the type of U.S. visa.

Step 2: Arrange the required documents for the visa

Step 3: Fill in Form DS-160.

Step 4: Pay the application fees.

Step 5: Schedule a visa appointment at the nearest local U.S. embassy

Step 6: Attend the visa interview

Step 7: Await the visa status.
